Fairview Ave Concrete & Ramp Installation Beginning Tuesday, July 14

Beginning Tues, July 14 (weather permitting) D.S. Meyer will perform concrete curb, sidewalk and driveway apron work on Fairview Ave at Irving Place, Mortimer Ave, Maple Street, and Home Ave. Work will also be done alongside the High School.

Residents are asked to remove all vehicles from the roadway BEOFRE 7:00am. Street parking is not permitted during work hours (Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm). Emergency access will always be available to residences.

Additionally, property owners are encouraged to mark or contact the contractor with any privately owned underground facilities within 10 feet of the curb such as heated driveways, irrigation systems of underground dog fencing.

This project has also required the removal of trees along Franklin Ave. Please read the following message from Borough Administrator Robert Kakoleski regarding tree removal in Rutherford:

Dear Residents,

We understand that the removal of mature trees from the tree belt can be concerning, especially in a community where trees are an important part of the neighborhood's character. The decision to remove a large tree is never made lightly and is only undertaken when it is determined to be necessary for public safety or the long-term health of the streetscape.

Trees may require removal for several reasons, including:

• The tree has overgrown the tree belt and is damaging the roadway.
• Root damage has compromised the tree's stability or is causing severe damage to sidewalks, curbs, or underground utilities.
• The tree poses a hazard to pedestrians, motorists, homes, or utility infrastructure.

Whenever possible, trees are inspected by qualified personnel, and alternatives such as pruning or other maintenance measures are considered before removal is recommended. Unfortunately, some trees reach a point where removal is the only responsible option to protect public safety and allow infrastructure improvements.

The Borough remains committed to maintaining a healthy and sustainable urban forest. When appropriate, removed trees will be replaced with suitable species selected for their long-term health, compatibility with available growing space, and ability to thrive in the local environment.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to balance the preservation of our community's tree canopy with the safety of our residents and visitors.
